Sometimes a glittering career hides some of the most heartbreaking stories. A winner of the USA and World competitions in hurdle events, Lolo Jones has reached her current position after an arduous process and immense amount of patience. Jones, who was born to a single mother with five children who lived in poverty and hardship as a youngster, experienced an extremely challenging childhood. Jones lived with her mom in the basement of a church. It was a life that required Jones to change schools and attend the same school each year up until her first day of high school. Jones loved to participate in athletics at Theodore Roosevelt high school, was able to live away from her mom to follow her interest. Jones was in four houses during her highschool times to allow her to concentrate in one place. Jones was a cellist with the school's orchestra as well as winner of Gatorade Iowa track and field athlete of the year won her the Gatorade Iowa Athlete Award at the conclusion of the high school year. Jones was among the best hurdlers in her age group when she was first enrolled in college. In the 2002 NCAA Track & Field Championship in the 100-meter hurdles. In the following seasons, she played the character in the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.
